What Skimmer is
Skimmer is the dominant cloud-based pool service software in the U.S. market, used by roughly 35,000 pool service businesses ranging from single-truck operators to multi-location enterprises running 50+ routes.
Built by a software engineer with direct industry familiarity, Skimmer’s strength is that it was designed from day one around the workflow pool techs actually do — route runs, chemical reads, equipment inspections, customer billing — rather than being adapted from generic field service software.
Pricing
Skimmer doesn’t publish pricing on its website; you need to book a demo to receive a quote. From operator-reported data we’ve collected, expect tiers roughly in line with:
- Solo (1 tech): ~$60–80/month
- Small team (2–5 techs): ~$150–250/month
- Mid-sized (5–15 routes): $400–800/month
- Enterprise (15+ routes, multi-location): $1,000+/month, often quoted custom
The lack of public pricing is the most common complaint we hear from operators evaluating it. Note: these are operator estimates, not official rates.
What it does well
Chemical tracking with LSI calculator. This is the headline feature for residential pool service. Techs log chemistry on-site, the software calculates Langelier Saturation Index, and flags when water is approaching corrosive or scaling territory. Pool Brain and a few others do this; most general field service tools don’t.
Route optimization. Daily route generation that accounts for time windows, drive distance, and tech assignments. Solid for densely-routed operations.
Customer portal. Customers can view chemistry reports, photos, invoices, and make payments. Worth roughly one less call per customer per month based on operator-reported data.
Scale. With 35,000+ customers, Skimmer’s product roadmap is well-funded and the integration ecosystem (QuickBooks, Stripe) is mature.
Where it’s weaker
Pricing opacity. As above — frustrating for evaluators who want to budget before a sales call.
Mobile-first design. Office staff using the desktop interface report it feels secondary to the tech-facing mobile app. Multi-location coordinators in particular can feel constrained.
Affiliate program is gated. Their partner program isn’t publicly documented; partnership inquiries go to niki@getskimmer.com.
Best fit
Mid-sized pool service operations (5–20 routes) wanting modern UX and the security of buying the market-leading product. Solo operators may find QuoteIQ’s transparent $29.99/mo Essentials plan simpler. Enterprises with franchisor controls may prefer Pool Brain.
