What to avoid
- Calendar-only “scheduling.” Some lighter tools market a shared calendar as scheduling. At 3+ techs, you need real dispatch with workload balancing, not a calendar overlay.
- Tools without a real mobile tech app. If your techs are using a desktop interface on phones, the UX falls apart in field conditions (wet hands, gloves, sunlight). Mobile-first matters more than feature checklists suggest.

Key features that actually matter

- GPS tracking and verification. Confirms techs were actually at the customer location when they logged a visit. Resolves disputes (“you didn’t show up”) with timestamped GPS evidence.
- Same-day re-routing. Customer cancels, weather closes a pool, tech calls in sick — software should suggest re-assignments without rebuilding the day from scratch.
